the shiny brights @ hq

It’s always such a relief to know that people in your town can make decent music. It feels even better when those said people make incredible music and put on a phenomenal live show. THE SHINY BRIGHTS are those said people. without a doubt.

Their explosive sophomore EP launch on friday night showcased a number of adelaide’s finest musical entrepreneurs, including 20th CENTURY GRADUATES and JIMMY AND THE MIRRORS, and it was cause for celebration. south australia might be known for something other than bringing the HILLTOP HOODS to the forefront! i thought jovially.

on the winds of change

or, i got bored/irritated with the previous theme and decided a change was in order. add to that a mounting pile of uni work and my inability to get motivated and actually do it, there seemed no better time to recreate the look of THE WORD.

not much has changed really, just looks a bit nicer. and i put in some pictures. and a feed. so if you’re handy with technology or have a million blogs you like to enjoy but don’t have the time to search through each one looking for an update, subscribe to THE WORD’S feed. please

nu-tunes; memoryhouse

i must share this.

after stumbling over them at indie shuffle, then again on pitchfork, i was compelled to share.

memoryhouse are two words: just. beautiful. they make dreamy music, supposedly part of a new genre to be known as chillwave. sounds alright. and after discovering it has it’s origins in shoegaze i’m sold. it’s simple stuff, but there’s a real beauty and lush sound to these guys.

thus far the duo from canada have only released an ep, but i certainly hope they release some new stuff soon. i need more.
