this is a strange one song challenge – but i accept.

yes it’s from the 80s. yes it’s a bit gooby. but it has THE BEST saxaphone solo and one of the catchiest choruses ever. it’s one of my all time favourite tracks.

i know it’s out of fashion and a trifle uncool
but i can’t help it, i’m a romantic fool
it’s a habit of mine to watch the sun go down
on echo beach, i watch the sun go down

from nine til five i have to spend my time at work
my job is very boring i’m an office clerk
the only thing that helps me pass the time away

i don’t usually get into the whole … folky thing. it’s not my scene. but for some infallible reason, i LOVE the tallest man on earth.

i’m not sure what it is, but after i listened to his album the wild hunt, it was one i kept coming back to over and over again.

same with shallow grave. the tracks are so simple but have such gorgeous hooks. and his voice! so gritty!

oh the number of songs i could have included for this day. i will list some of them now, just so i can completely ruin any shred of credibility i once had.

but my absolute guilty pleasure is this little gem of a track.

an ABSOLUTE classic track. easily THE BEST electro hook in the world. this is the original from 1993, but i first heard it a few years back, when i first turned 18 and discovered the wonderful world of FLASHDANCE at HQ.

oh yes. this is a quality track – especially from the 90s.

well, since we’ve already had one from my favourite band of ALL TIME joy division, i thought it might be nice to include a track by my favourite flavour of the moment, wild nothing.

i could have very easily picked any of the tracks from the album and numerous eps. i decided to go for one of my favourites from the very early cloudbusting single.

i probably haven’t strictly fallen asleep to this song – in all honesty i could fall asleep to anything – but i think it’s the sort of track that would encourage sleep.

it’s just such a calming, soothing track – it reminds me of a rainy sort of night, snuggling up. definitely the sort of qualities one wants in a song to go to sleep.

i do love a little bit of memoryhouse and i personally feel they should hurry up with an album, preferably including that incredible cover of my bloody valentine’s ‘when you sleep.’ (another sleep themed, but not sleep-inducing track)

another tough one. although i try to avoid dancing in public at all costs (apart from whilst having a beverage, in which case it’s easier just letting me flail) i often ‘bust a move’ in my bedroom. door closed.

girl talk is one of the few artists that consistently and without fail gets me up and moving like a maniacal ragdoll and narrowing it down to one track proved difficult.

well, i honestly could have picked from a whole bunch of tracks – for some strange reason lyrics seem to implant themselves in my head and even if i haven’t heard the song for years, i usually have some recollection of the words.

in the end, i decided to pick this one. after hearing it only once i had most of the words down. this may or may not have had to do with the fact that they were relatively close to home at the time.

let’s rewind to 2007 – nearly four years ago (heavens – that is a slightly alarming figure) and pretend it’s the end of november. year 12 is finished and it’s off to victor harbor. well in my case, goolwa.

i surprisingly do have some decent memories of that weekend, despite drinking more than i ever had up to that period. this track stands out particularly though. i remember icky thump had just come out and it was on serious repeat at the house.

one night this was blasting and it was awesome – the end of year 12, the start of uni…oh how nostalgic.
